Collective Worship

Each day, children and adults have the opportunity to take part in a daily act of collective worship, either as a whole school or through class based sessions.  Each act of worship aims to set apart the time spent together as a holy and reflective space

All sessions are designed to be accessible to our entire school community, whether they are members of the Christian faith, a different faith or follow a non religious worldview.  Planning and rotas are compiled by Mrs Stuart, our Collective Worship Lead teacher, drawing on the expertise of our local vicar, Rev. Mike Griffiths, teachers and children.

Whole school worship takes place in the hall on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.  On a Monday, Mrs Stuart leads us in worship based on a seasonal, vision or values based theme.  We also look at important historical and present day role models, considering how they can set an example to us and support us in living out our vision to "Shine Your Light".  On Tuesdays, Mr Helsby and Mrs Ball lead the school in worship through singing and music, providing opportunities for children to share their gifts and inspire others by playing their instruments or singing a solo.  Every Friday we also have the pleasure of enjoying a fun and lively time of worship led by the Rev. Mike Griffiths and linked to the theme for that week.

In addition to this we have two classroom based worship sessions each week, one led by our Worship Team and and other by class teachers.  Our Worship team take their role of setting up for and leading worship very seriously.  They meet with Mrs Stuart weekly during a lunchtime to prepare for their sessions and make them bespoke to the class they are working with or their own individual ideas.  These can be based on Picture News worship resources to discuss topical ideas and relate them to the Bible as well as quotes from significant individuals or building on what has been introduced at the beginning of the week.  Class teacher led sessions allow the children to delve deeper into topics of interest or questions that have come up which are relevant to their class.

Resources used to support these sessions include ODBE Collective Worship resources and Picture News.
