The Role of the Governing Board at Brightwalton School

The Governing Board operates at strategic level with its purpose to promote high standards of educational achievement at Brightwalton School. The governors are not involved in the operational or day-to-day running of the school, this is the responsibility of the Headteacher.

The governing board has a strong focus on three core functions:

1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Our governing board currently consists of 9 governors, all of whom are volunteers recruited from a combination of sources: parents, staff, local authority, local community and the church. Our governing board completes a yearly skills audit to ensure we have the right skills within the board to carry out our duties effectively.

The governing board meets at least once a term as a full body. More frequent meetings are held of committees within the governing board to continually monitor the work of the school. Our current committees are: Learning and Progress, Resources and Performance Management.

We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor and a PCC (Parochial Church Council) Governor.  If you are interested please contact the Clerk to Governors via the School Office.
