Some of the schools piano students attended the Sheepdrove Piano Competition Winner recital which took place at the Corn Exchange in Newbury. It was a solo piano concert with some quite challenging Prokofiev and Chopin pieces being played, very inspiring, especially as the winner Jacky Zhang is only 17 years of age.
The General Manager of the festival, Ashley Morris, came over to our group at the end of the recital and thanked everyone for being such good audience members and said he was really impressed with their behaviour.

At Brightwalton School, we want our children to enjoy and be inspired by the subject of Music. We encourage participation in a variety of musical experiences, both in class and beyond. Through workshops, concerts, clubs and lessons with professional teachers, they can develop as musicians, increase their self-confidence and creativity and gain a sense of achievement.
In lessons, the children will learn about, experiment with and implement the inter-related dimensions of music including pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations, incorporating them into their own improvisations and compositions on untuned and tuned instruments. Listening to different forms of music from across different time periods, cultures and traditions, supports children to be open-minded in their listening, knowledgeable about a breadth of musical genres and provides them with cultural capital for future participation and appreciation.
