Equitable Access to Opportunity

At Brightwalton C.E. Primary School, we are dedicated to both our Christian principles and our legal responsibilities to ensure equality, inclusion, and opportunity for all. Inspired by the Christian value of encouraging every child to "shine their light" (Matthew 5:16), we nurture confidence, wisdom, and compassion in a supportive environment.

Equality and Inclusion
We follow the Equality Act 2010, ensuring all children—regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background—are treated with respect and dignity. We make reasonable adjustments to meet individual needs, ensuring that every child has the chance to succeed.

Safeguarding and Legal Compliance
In line with the Children and Families Act 2014, Education Act 2002, and Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025, we protect the well-being of every child. We work closely with safeguarding partners to create a safe environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.

Challenging Discrimination
Rooted in Christian values and guided by the Equality Duty, we actively challenge discrimination, bullying, and stereotypes. We aim to foster good relations and regularly review our policies to ensure the school remains a safe and inclusive community where every child can "shine their light" and reach their full potential.

By combining our Christian ethos with our legal duties, Brightwalton Primary is a place where children grow in character, wisdom, and kindness, embodying love and equality in all they do.

Brightwalton C.E. Primary School – Equality Objectives 2024–2028

  1. SEND Attainment Gap
To give each pupil with SEND the best chance to make progress and narrow their attainment gap from their individual starting point in reading and math, by ensuring every child has a clear support plan, receives targeted intervention, and is monitored termly.
Measure: Termly tracking will show progress against personalised targets.
    Review: Annually (Summer Term).
  2. Access to Enrichment
To increase opportunities for disadvantaged pupils (including those eligible for Pupil Premium) to participate in after-school clubs and wider enrichment, with school support provided where resources allow.
Measure: Participation levels monitored termly, aiming for a year-on-year increase (within funding constraints).
    Review: Annually (Summer Term).
  3. Diversity in the Curriculum
To ensure that by July 2027, all curriculum areas include planned opportunities to highlight diverse role models, cultures, and contributions, so that children gain a broad and inclusive understanding of the world.
Measure: Subject leaders to evidence curriculum coverage in annual subject reports.
    Review: Annually (Summer Term).
