Sustainability at Brightwalton Primary School

Welcome to our sustainability page.

At Brightwalton we are passionate about the environment and aim to use the beautiful countryside surrounding our school to enhance our curriculum and help us value and look after the natural world.

You only need to look at our school to know our commitment to the environment as you cannot miss the huge array of eight-one solar panels which provide ALL of the electricity to our school and more!

Below you will find a our sustainability plan detailing the things Brightwalton aim to achieve to feel we are doing our bit to help the environment.    You will also find a video the children have made detailing some of the things we have done already and hopefully inspire other schools to do the same!

Englefield Estate Countryside Visit 2025.

On 18th and 19th June, Key Stage 2 visited Englefield Estate to see sustainability in action.   Throughout the day, children spent time at different workshops which included sessions about butterflies and moths, action for the River Kennet, super soils, tree and timber, fishing, living things and their habitats and to top if off, a history lesson at Englefield House.

Staff at Englefield commented on how knowledgeable Brightwalton children were at answering their questions and were impressed at how engaged they were.    Well done Brightwalton!

Grown from seeds

We planted some seeds during our school VE Day celebration, they have grown and been planted outside in the wellbeing garden. The gardening club dug up and tasted the radishes!
